Within an one-hour drive of historic Girona lie pretty Mediterranean villages offering quiet sandy coves, family activities, excellent seafood, and a wealth of seafaring history. I was surprised by unspoilt nature of the coastline and how well the medieval villages had been restored. I had imagined coastal Spain to be full of overbuilt beaches and tacky towns but this trip was a revelation. Here’s a taste of what Costa Brava offers.

When I asked my kids to share their favorite part of our trip to Peru, they answered “Everything!” From rafting the Urubamba River, to movie night at Sol y Luna Resort, exploring Ollyantaytambo, shopping, and of course, Machu Picchu, it was hard to pick.

Our week in Peru was filled with firsts. It was the first time my children had been to a developing nation. It was the first time my husband and I had ever been south of the equator, let alone the Andes.

Washington’s Olympic National Park is home to forests filled with towering spruce and fir dripping with moss as they reach up towards a sky thick with waterlogged clouds.

There are few places on the planet more isolated or biologically diverse than the Hawaiian Islands. The islands were built by volcanic activity and the very volcanoes that formed the islands still dominate the landscape.

Alas, it’s time to store away the ski and snowboarding gear for the season. Coincidentally, it’s also time to plan the perfect ski resort SUMMER vacation. Yes, summer is the ideal season to vacation with kids at ski resorts, where outdoor recreation abounds, and luxury on a budget exists.
