Families staying in Midtown will find easy access to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall, the New York Public Library, and Times Square (although we have a separate section of Times Square hotels below). The location is central, the hotel selection (and price range) is vast. Explore these kid-friendly picks:
The Sherry Netherland- Editor’s Choice
With its Central Park views, classic NYC awning and circular entrance, elevator attendant, personal butler and maid service, and uniquely decorated 50 rooms, The Sherry Netherland is a Midtown splurge worthy of an iconic vacation. A long list of celebs have stayed here, but the Family Getaway Package, which includes luxurious all-suite accommodations, tickets to the Central Park Zoo, historic Carousel, NYC-themed gifts and Metro Passes, will make you think the 90-year-old hotel was designed just for families. –Katie Bodell, Trekaroo Blog Editor

Le Parker Meriden
My daughter and I stayed at Le Parker Meriden on a February weekend getaway to New York City. We spent the long, chilly evenings indoors enjoying the view from the pool on the 42nd floor; with views overlooking both Central Park in one direction and the city skyline in the other, we could enjoy NYC without going outside in the snow – just perfect! –Melissa Moore, Trekaroo Travel Expert

After a recent stay in the city, my top pick is the Omni Berkshire Place. Located at 52nd and Madison, the hotel is just blocks from Rockefeller Center and the shopping of Madison Avenue, a short walk to Times Square, and a short cab ride to dozens of other attractions. The Omni features some wonderful touches just for kids, including a backpack full of goodies given at check in, cookies and milk delivered to your room at turn down, and a kids club where children can “decompress” by making crafts and snacking on gummy bears.- Beth Keklak, author at JerseyMomsBlog

Times Square Hotels
Although Times Square (officially part of Midtown) is the hub for tourist action, it isn’t Trekaroo’s favorite place to stay while in NYC with kiddos. But if you are looking for a hotel right within the action (or extremely close to Broadway), here are our favs.
Centrally located in the middle of Times Square, the Westin New York at Times Square is a great choice for families. The views of the NYC skyline are incredible and the rooms themselves are simple yet luxurious, with all the essentials. The hotel has terrific on-site dining and gym facilities. –Holly Fink, author at The Culture Mom
The Kimpton Muse Hotel is a boutique hotel in the heart of Times Square, with modern rooms, complimentary wine and hot chocolate in the afternoon, free parking(!) and value room rates. The Hotel Belleclaire is a boutique hotel on the Upper West Side. It is walking distance to Central Park, the AMNH, and the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. On top of the amazing location, this hotel has family rooms with one bed in a semi-private room (there is a wall but no door) for the parents and two other queen beds on the other side of the wall for the kids. It is not cheap. -Tarlie Harris, Trekaroo Travel Expert

For our last vacation hooray this summer, we stayed at the Hotel Beacon on the Upper West Side. I was blown away! I have a 2 year old son, so I wanted to stay in the Upper West Side to make it easy to get to the Children’s Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, Central Park, and more. Fully-equipped kitchens in all rooms and a budget price point make this a must-try.

Explore the arts scene in Chelsea, located in Manhattan’s west side. The Highline and Chelsea Market draw the most appeal for families, but Madison Square Garden, Penn Station, and a slew of smaller museums round out the draw.

Across the East River from Manhattan sits Brooklyn, the NYC borough with the largest population. Although most visitors just scratch the surface of Brooklyn when visiting (or use Brooklyn as a home base for exploring Manhattan), Brooklyn is actually a great family vacation destination all on its own.
Located in Downtown Brooklyn with easy access to Subway lines, Hilton Brooklyn is modern, upbeat, and charming. The hotel truly reflects Brooklyn in its décor and I seriously wanted to take some of the vintage Brooklyn pictures that were featured in our room. -Katie Bodell, Trekaroo Blog Editor
