Getting out in the Great Outdoors with Infants and Toddlers- Advice from a Mom Who Does It!

My husband and I have always loved to explore the outdoors; before having children, we had many outdoor adventures together. When I became pregnant with our son, we were told over and over that once he arrived, all our outdoor adventures would have to come to an end, at least for the first couple years. Oh, how those folks were wrong.

We were determined to continue our outdoor adventures and to share them with our little guy, and we weren’t willing to wait until he was “older”. He went hiking for the first time at 6 weeks old and camping at 9 months old. He has been on a 3 week road trip to the Pacific Northwest, camped for a week in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, spent 10 days camping in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, and we just got back from a 2 week trip to Glacier National Park. He has visited 7 national parks and he’s barely 17 months old!

Adventures on Vancouver Island with Kids

Vancouver Island is a magical trip with kids that is often spent in Victoria, sipping tea at the Empress, wandering the famous Butchart Gardens, strolling the boardwalk looking for coffee or poutine, and feeding goats at Beacon Hill. While that is a lovely trip all in itself, Vancouver Island has a lot more rugged adventure to offer.

Exploring Grenada with Kids

Grenada also has the distinction of being a quieter island with none of the huge mega resorts at some of the other Caribbean islands. In fact, the whole island has perhaps 1,200 or so hotel rooms. That’s it. Yet what it doesn’t have ends up being one of its biggest assets -a lovely paradise that is uncrowded, friendly, and a great destination for families.
