Last fall, this California girl fell in love with Kansas City. I was so surprised by the big city feel, beautiful scenery, exceptional lodging, and kid friendly Kansas City attractions. We are so certain that your family will fall in love with this Midwestern Metropolis that we have partnered with our friends at Visit KC to offer this fabulous family friendly giveaway to explore the best of Kansas City.
Kid Friendly Kansas City Activities
Crown Center
Crown Center is a goldmine of kid-friendly fun. Little ones can explore the diversity of underwater life at the SEA LIFE Aquarium as they encounter sharks, octopi, rays, and thousands of other sea flora and fauna. Next door, get ready to build at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center. In addition to brick building fun, kids can ride LEGO themed rides, learn exclusive tips and tricks from LEGO masters, get their energy out in themed play areas, and even learn how LEGOs are made. While visiting Crown Center, dine at the Crayola Cafe or Fritz’s Railroad Cafe for kid-friendly themed dining.
Budget Friendly Fun: Crown Center’s outdoor fountain is a mecca for kids on a hot day. No matter what the season, be sure to get creative at the ingenious Kaleidoscope Art Center and Hallmark Visitor Center, both are completely free to visit.
Union Station
Just around the corner from Crown Plaza, be sure to visit Union Station. Built in 1914, Union Station features impressive architecture, restaurants, and kid friendly fun at Science City and the KC Rail Experience (included with admission to Science City). Science City, as one would expect, is a creative “city” full of scientific and interactive exploration, just perfect for school-age kids. Walk through a giant artery, climb and slide your way through a model of a modern sewer system, land a space shuttle, or dig for dinosaur bones. Your family could spend hours inside and not do everything.
Historic Landmarks
KC is home to numerous famous historic landmarks. History buffs (and their budding children) will find a plethora of material to study from Civil War battlefields, to the National World War I Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and the Harry S. Truman Library & Museum all of which feature numerous interactive kid-friendly exhibits.
Budget Friendly Fun: If your family loves art history, be sure to check out KC’s free art museums including the massive & diverse Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.
Family Friendly Lodging in the City of Fountains
KC is the City of Fountains, boasting more than any city outside of Rome! Country Club Plaza, a beautiful outdoor shopping and restaurant district, is an amazing hub for fountain discovery featuring 19 fountains. Set amidst the backdrop of stunning Spanish architecture, world-class shops, and a diverse selection of fine restaurants, Country Club Plaza is home to KC’s most iconic fountain: the J.C. Nichols.
Budget Friendly Fun: If your little ones fall in love with Country Club Plaza’s fountains, check out this free fountain scavenger hunt across KC.
Just steps from the shopping scene, located within the Plaza, the Sheraton Suites Country Club Plaza offers families a convenient and newly renovated all-suite place to rest their heads. Parents will love the indulgent Sheraton Sweet SleeperTM bed and enjoy the family friendly perks like two room suites equipped with two flat screen TV’s, a refrigerator , microwave, and a pull out sofa. Upgrade to the Sheraton Club Lounge to take advantage of complimentary breakfasts, hors d’oeuvres hours, fitness center, and convenient business center amenities.
