Why Trekaroo?

Brennan and I just got back from a camping trip with our two boys and a group of friends in Yosemite.

Ahhhh……we are reminded exactly why families like ours need Trekaroo. Certainly traveling with children is no easy task. Certainly, there will still be those sleepless nights and that feeling of being so encumbered with gear that you would otherwise never think to bring. But it sure helps to have other parents to commiserate with, others who will celebrate how brave you are, and best of all, those who will set warning post to steer you away from disastrous situations or give you a tip or two that will bring big smiles to the whole family’s faces.

Now that Trekaroo is in place, we finally have a place that we can report back to after returning from a trip. I was so excited to share about the great camping experience we had at Tuolumne Meadows, and advise other parents with a toddler and a preschooler not to try a 8-mile hike to Cathedral Lakes. Instead, an afternoon playing at Tenaya Lake with it’s picture perfect surroundings make for some gleeful giggles and relaxed parents. Read my detailed reports from our weekend trip on Trekaroo.

Camping with a 2 and 5 year old does mean being covered head to toe in dirt, sleepless nights, constantly watching for children near the fire pit and much more, but it also means endless hours of make belief with piles of sticks, peels of giggles from swinging in a hammock, delighting in building dams in small creeks, and precious moments gazing at stars together. If the families of Trekaroo were to inspire other families to overcome the challenges to enjoy those wonderful moments of discovering the world with a child, that would make it all worth while.
