If you are anything like me and an active mama during pregnancy, you know there are very few options for maternity active and outdoors wear. The big box stores and maternity boutiques have very limited options, but there is hope with a gorgeous and functional line of maternity wear from Mountain Mama. Their lush colors, trim styles, and fancy fabrics will please even the pickiest of moms. I received two items of clothing from Mountain Mama, and overall I was pleased with the quality and the functionality.

First, the wonderful Trinity Maternity Trekking Pants! Have you ever tried to find maternity hiking pants?! Impossible. I usually wear my regular ones until the button is about to pop, then add in a Bella band for the next few months (luckily, I do not get too big). These waterproof pants are lightweight for the summer months, but loose enough to throw some long underwear underneath for colder temperatures. I personally tested them in both — an early fall mid-day hike in gorgeous 70-degree temperatures, as well as a colder evening hike with the temperatures dropping to the 40s. I was comfortable during both (with the aforementioned addition underneath during cold weather, and with the bottoms taken off during the warmer hike). The suspenders are a nice addition, though I never really “figured them out”, so to speak. I tried to contact Mountain Mama twice to ask questions, but never received a response to my messages (if I have to give the company a thumb down, it’d be for this lack of customer service, which I was surprised by). The tabs on the suspenders stuck out funny, and while wearing them, it made the pants ride up considerably. Not being super far along and with a relatively small belly, I can’t imagine trying to wear the suspenders in the third trimester or if I carried bigger. So, I nixed the suspenders and wore the pants sans this addition. I love the look of them, however, and maybe after some more adjusting, I could perhaps figure out how to keep the “hidden tabs” truly hidden.

If you were ever looking for a semi-warm, incredibly soft, and gorgeously stylish maternity hoodie, look no further than the Olympia Pullover in North Sea. The color was even darker and lush in person, and I love the fit.  At first glance, it seemed huge, but I love that it will fit until the very end. It stretches nicely and looks great on. The fabric is super soft and pretty warm, though I would recommend a windproof outer layer if you are out in colder weather.  I wore it under a Mountain Hardwear down jacket during a camping temperature in freezing temps and it was a perfect under layer in addition to being a pretty piece to even wear to the office during the fall and winter. After a few washings, the outside is beginning to pill a little, but that happens to a lot of nice sweaters, so I don’t consider this a great drawback.

I love, love, love that the company sources their materials locally, and the clothing is made 100% in the USA. That in itself is worth the price, in my opinion! Overall, if you have the money to spend on quality, unique, and stylish maternity outerwear, look no further than Mountain Mama.
