THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. Congratulations to Shad Wanless, lucky number 185 as chosen by Random.org’s random number generator. Enjoy your trip!
When most people think about a taking vacation in the desert, the last time of year they consider visiting is the summer. After all, 100 degree days are an inevitability. If your family is anything like mine, playing at the pool is a huge priority, especially when a 111-foot waterslide snakes its way into the mix. Instead of going someplace cool along the coast and hoping with fingers crossed that the water is warm enough to be braved, why not take advantage of the heat and off season prices and head on out to a resort which may be outside your budget during the winter months.
Recently, Superoo Michele Whiteaker headed out to Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort in Chandler, AZ and was impressed by not only the pool, but the multitude of special experiences the property offers. Sure, the pool is spectacular (with great organized activities such as underwater leap frog, water frisbee, and steal the floatie), but this resort which is owned by the Gila River Indian Community mingles traditional poolside and golf course fun with an education on the culture and heritage of the Pima and Maricopa tribes. Art from the Pima and Maricopa tribes is featured and celebrated throughout the resort and children who participate in the Sheraton Adventure Club learn to make Native American inspired arts and crafts of their own to take home.

Another unique aspect of the resort is nearby Rawhide, an 1880’s Old West town featuring stagecoach and train rides, cowboy stunt shows, gold panning and more. The best way to reach Rawhide from the resort is via a boat that your kids are sure to love. Be sure to pack a cowboy hat and bandana for your little ones because they will love fully embracing all the cowboy-themed action.
