Monday Madness: Road Trip Prize Pack

This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to Trekaroo member Bubblace for winning!

Its hard to believe that a little over a month ago, my family and I were on a one week, two thousand mile adventure thanks to Country Inns and Suites.  We saw seven states in seven days and were able to try out some really cool products along the way. Here is a quick run down of the products we were given to road test:

The Car- Ford Flex  provided by Avis: I had never even heard of a Ford Flex before this trip, let alone driven one.  But by the end of our journey, I sounded just like one of those cheesy Ford commercials on American Idol-  I just couldn’t stop singing it’s praises.  There was plenty of leg room, which is important to a tall family like ours, and the trunk held our ridiculous amounts of luggage with plenty of room to spare.   If you need to rent a car while on vacation that is big enough for a family of four or five, I think this car is a great option.

The Video Camera-  GZ-HM320 HD Video Camera by JVC: We loved this camcorder!  It is so much smaller than the HD camcorder we had at home and it takes great video.  We learned how to use some of its fancy features, including time lapse.  The camera was portable enough to actually use on vacation and will become a permanent fixture in our camera bag.

The Phone-  Samsung Moment provided by Sprint: It had alot of cool features, including a touch screen and a keypad.  We did have to load quite a few videos and found that the phone slowed down considerably if too much memory was used.  That being said, as long as the user keeps the memory from being bogged down, the phone works pretty well.

The Charger- Duracell Rechargeable Instant USB Charger: This little guy rocked!  When your smart phone or IPod dies all you have to do is plug the device into the charger and you have a new charge while out on the road!  I love it!

The Water Bottle- Polar Bottle: What I loved about this bottle is that cold drinks actually stay cold.  What a concept!  We used this to keep our kids’ juice cold while driving across a very hot country. It worked great and kept beverages cool all day long.  If only they could create a filtered version of this bottle I would be in heaven!

The Kid’s Entertainment- Travel Kiddy: Travel Kiddy makes activity kits for kids that are specifically designed for different age groups and perfect to take on road trips.  All the goodies come packed in a pouch which is small enough to fit neatly inside a suitcase but still jam packed with lots of fun!  My kids especially loved the Bath Kiddy.  Normally,  I don’t pack bath toys on the road and the kids are bored in the tub, but now they look forward to being able to use their special bath toys when we take trips.

The Steal:  Win a Road Trip Prize Pack!

Summer is in full swing and its the perfect time of year for a family road trip.   To get you started on your adventure, Trekaroo will supply one lucky family with some road trip goodies, including a few things I used while on the Country Inns and Suites 1K.

Every summer we hit the road and head up to Santa Cruz to visit friends and family. Then we do a day trip to San Francisco. I love to drive up highway one when I can…beautiful!!!

I’m dreaming of a roadtrip up to the Pacific North West as soon as my kids are old enough to endure the drive without too much grumpiness.

  2. April July 19, 2010 at 10:39 am #

We haven’t been daring enough to take a long road trip yet with a 2.5 & 4 yr old. As it is, we get the endless “are we there yet?” question just driving down to San Diego from Orange County. But we’d like to go to Yosemite soon!

This year, we’re heading up to Zion, our farthest trip yet. It’s practice for a longer trip next year.

We usually end up taking the PA turnpike or I-95, as they are the most efficient routes to our destinations, but I like any county back road where you can see the towns and the people and get a real feel for the area. Sometimes it’s one of the most interesting parts of the trip.

  8. Judith J July 19, 2010 at 12:23 pm #

My family’s favorite road trip is to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We break up the drive with an overnight in the DC area, where we take in a different Smithsonian museum each year before hitting the beach!

  9. Kasee July 19, 2010 at 2:17 pm #

My family of 6 loves to travel, but the roads from home (Homeland, CA) to Grandpa’s house in Lake Tahoe, Nevada are our favorites. We load up our van with tons of entertaining travel games and see how far we can make it before we hear the inevitable “I have to go to the bathroom!”

  10. Darcy July 19, 2010 at 2:56 pm #

We haven’t typically been big roadtrippers in the past but we’re heading from Seattle to the Oregon Coast (Seaside/Cannon Beach) this summer – can’t wait!

This is a DREAM prize for families that enjoy road trips as much as we do, what awesome sponsors!!!
That said- I’m following (twitter & FB @FLboyzmom)
It’d be easier to name destinations that aren’t our favorite trips… We really enjoy hitting the road, this past month we traveled through AR to the diamond mines. I love the open road & lots of NOTHING and nobody to look at. No traffic, no cities- just us, nature & the road any road like this.
I’m going in to fish & tweet out the Mad Monday steal now!

We’re looking forward to heading up to Lake Tahoe from the Central Coast of CA. I-5 is efficient (but not pretty), but once we get onto the 50 East heading into Lake Tahoe it’s a beautiful scenic drive. Hubby and I have been there twice but this will be the kids’ first time and we’re so excited to show them that crystal blue lake!

We live in New York’s Hudson Valley, and we really enjoy the road trip upstate into the Adirondacks, where my cousin has a “camp” on Sixth Lake. Winding back roads, beautiful scenery, and absolutely NO cell phone signals!

  27. Michelle July 20, 2010 at 10:02 am #

We take many road trips from Orange County to Fresno to visit family and we love stopping at new sites along the way. On one of these trips, we stopped at the Vista Del Lago turnout that is in the mountains just north of Castaic. It has an amazing visitor center with displays on how water is transported all over California through the aquaduct system.

Our family road trip is from Richmond, VA to Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. We try to stay along the coastline as much a possible and make some fun detours. Newburyport, MA is a favorite stop along the way!

  39. Linda H July 20, 2010 at 4:52 pm #

We like to go to Chicago area for the week-ends so we let the kids make out a route on the state highway map. Sometime we never make it to Chicago becaue of the fun we find along onu new route.

We do a lot of in state road trips, and to destinations in the Midwest. Our bigger road trips recently have to from IL to SC, IL to FL and we will be going from IL to VA and DC soon.

  70. Carrie July 25, 2010 at 6:09 pm #

My family LOVES road tripping from SC to Disney World! We take a side trip to the beach to watch the sunrise over the ocean!

  71. Kristie July 28, 2010 at 12:54 pm #

My family enjoys traveling to the Hampton Roads area. There is so much to do there, from the beach to the Virginia Aquarium to dolphin or whale-watching cruises. Plenty to keep the kids occupied. Plus, it’s only about 3-4 hours from the Washington, DC area, so you could really get a great vacation by combining the two destinations if you wanted.
