As the ski resorts in Colorado start to accumulate snow for this winter season, Trekaroo’s also been accumulating activities and hotels in Denver and Colorado Springs that are great for families.
Why Colorado? Because you, our users asked for it! No matter what time of year it is, families can enjoy the renowned ski resort areas, camp in one of its 10 national parks and monuments, jump into a natural hot spring or gaze on the beautiful 54 mountain peaks that top 14,000 feet.
So, what have Trekaroo families shared?
- All 90 activities for kids in the Denver Area
- All 75 activities for kids in South Central Colorado (Colorado Springs)

Special thanks to Gretchen, startropics, slofamilylife, amysmile, flutterby, gwosatum, sixsuitcases and the Colorado Kidsmobile Moms for their love of Colorado and sharing about their adventures with kids with the Trekaroo community. And of course, thanks to team Trekaroo who sacrifice so much for pull it all together.
As we turn Colorado orange on our maps, I’m reminded of John Denver’s rendition of Home on the Range with the Muppets when they went camping in the Rockies.

With Thanksgiving marking the start of the holidays, did you think that we folks at Trekaroo would be kicking back and working on our holiday travels? As the Obamas get ready to light up the Christmas tree in DC on Thursday, we’re lighting up DC on the Trekaroo map today!

Why DC? Well, I always remember the first time that I came here with my parents and younger sister. I didn’t get to meet the President, but being inside the White House and Capitol Hill was like having my history class come to life. I remember being totally bummed because we kept getting lost in our search for the Supreme Court. Although, DC proper is only about 8 miles wide, the region stretches into the outer edges of Maryland and Virginia. With over 100 activities for kids of all ages to enjoy, Trekaroo brings you the District of Columbia – unplugged for kids.
So, what have we got?
- Over 100 Activities for kids in the Washington DC Metro Area
- Over 150 hotels in and around Washington DC that are waiting to be rated by families like you.
Here’s a summary of what the Trekaroo community’s is saying:
- Best Activiites for Kids in Washington DC – voted by parents
- Top Kid-friendly Hotels in Washington DC - voted by parents
Great lists created by the Trekaroo community:

All of these lists have been contributed by DC area mom bloggers for our Trekaroo KidsMobile stop in DC today. KidsMobile is making a virtual tour of the US with local bloggers jumping on and off.
A special shout-out goes to Max’s Mom, jenc17, carolr, momof4girls, katy, and girlymama for their love of Washington DC and helping us build up DC’s content from the ground-up for this launch. Without them or my com padres at Trekaroo, we’d only be covering the Bay Area. Thank you, thank you, thank you times a million.
See you at a monument,
Esther Lee (thelees3) – CEO
P.S. To kick-off the new year, we’ve got a full line-up of new states to launch including Colorado, Utah, and North Carolina. If you’d like to help us get any of these states or your local area ready for lift-off, please email us at editor@trekaroo.com.

Trekaroo is heading up to the beautiful Pacific Northwest to launch in Seattle and across the rest of the state of Washington. There’s so much to see here for tweens and teens – Shamu in the wild, Mt. Rainier, Pike’s Place, the Space Needle, where grunge music began, where coffeehouses took off, Microsoft, and more. For the younger set, there’s a plethora of indoor and outdoor fun to entertain kids for many days.

That time of the year is coming up soon! Trekaroo will be selecting our 2009 Superoos in December – that’s just a couple months away. So, if there is any doubt if you are a Trekaroo mom or dad who has demonstrated Superoo abilities this year? Then it’s time to step up.
Wait? Don’t you not know what a Superoo is? Wonder no longer…
Trekaroo Superoos are parents with unique characteristics who are able to see the humor amidst the challenges of traveling with their offspring. In fact, they thrive best when exploring and trail blazing with their pack. They are our biggest contributors and eager to help. Superoos inspire other family travelers through the stories they tell, the tips they share, and their insightful recommendations. Each year, the Superoo council selects moms and dads from the Trekaroo community who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. These select few are the go-to folks for travel advice and demonstrate wisdom and travel savvy that separate them from the rest.
Superoos get special Superoo privileges.
