Many tourists that live outside of California may not even know Santa Catalina Island exists.  The rugged 22-mile island is mostly wild, but the town of Avalon makes it the only one of the Channel Islands that is developed in some fashion.  Its most iconic building is the Catalina Casino, dominates the harbor front skyline and vacation homes creep up the surrounding hillsides.

Adventure abounds on Catalina. Scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and boating are all popular ocean-based activities.  Those looking to find fun on land can golf, hike, take a back country tour in search of buffalo, or zip line. If families prefer to take it slow, a lazy day in a beachfront cabana at Descanso Beach Club may be your idea of heaven.
