My kids love my IPhone so much and beg my husband and I to play with ours, we finally gave in and bought the kids their own used IPod Touch’s. You can get a good deal on them on Ebay, and they are cheaper than buying a DVD player for the car (which I was faced with having to do replace ours at the time). I can put their own movies, music, and games on them, and they are occupied for the whole trip. They can even bring them inside the restaurants so we can eat peacefully! The games are often educational so they can learn while being entertained too! You must get a good rubber case for them if the kids are little though! Mine are 6 & 8 and have done really well with them.

My favorite “travel product” is actually free. We get MP3 or Books on CD from the library. Since they are free, each child gets to pick their own. Then, set them up with their own headphones, and they can be occupied for hours!

traveling with a DVD player is a great way to travel on long road trips. my kids have separate headsets, all given to them by an Aunt when boredom and bickering kicks in the movie starts. like traveling on an airplane. everyone’s happy

A cheap option but a good one is the paddle ball, where the ball is attached to the bat by a string. This way they can play with it in confined spaces when traveling as well as at your destination.
You don’t have to worry about trying to find a ball that’s gone missing, nor do you have to worry about them breaking something.

I recently found some little einsteins magnetic dry erase books that my boys love. I’ve taken them for now so they’ll be new and exciting for our next road trip.

A metal cookie sheet and play magnets…. could be letters, numbers, cars, airplanes, animals. The kids love to play with their magnets that way. Great for road trips.

I love the little snack cups that prevent spills (or at least decrease the number of spills). Our other go to travel toy is an old cell phone. Our son could spend hours playing with that!

Pack a special entertainment bag (for us a little suitcase on wheels with the standard books, toys, etc. for the kids with inexpensive dry erase boards, sticker books, crafts, toys, play dough, cars, etc and wrap each of them in comics or plain wrap or fun wrapping paper. Throughout the trip, set milestones where they can upwrap one of the wrapped items and add to their collection of entertainment choices. It keeps the trip stash fresh without buying along the way. I collect these items throughout the year in preparation for our next trip.

On any road trip we always make sure our kids pack at least one book! They are great for in the car or waiting anywhere like the hotel room. We also bring a notebook the boys like to make stories, draw pictures or write journal entries about what they see during the drive.

When we are driving for a while in the car, one of the best things for our family is the Leapster 2. My boys have several different games, and it keeps them quiet, and entertained while they are learning too!

Etch a sketch is always a good one too! There are a few different ones in the stores now for a nice variety. You can even get a pink one for the little girls in the family!

We have discovered Floam, and have brought it with us on road trips. This stuff is fantastic! It is like play-do, only better. It doesn’t dry out or leave crumbs or damage anything. It comes in bright colors, and you can use the play-do tools on it, such as the rolling pin, scissors, etc. The perfect thing for a young kid on a road trip!

We just went on a long (cross-country) airplane ride and I got all sorts of stuff. But the winner, the one he really wanted to play with for 15+ minutes? I bought a coat at a thrift store and cut off the collar which had 2 big buttons, and he practiced with the buttons!

The car is the one place we don’t mind having the books with pop-out steering wheels and simple buttons with sounds. We’ve got a couple different ones that we picked up at Costco, and he grabs the one he wants as he gets into the carseat. Any other environment and they’re too noisy for me, but in the car works just fine for me. But I may try the buttons on an upcoming road trip…

Activity books – stopped at Lakeshore Learning Center before our trip and got our son a 2nd grade skills book and my daughter a wipe-off alphabet book with dry erase pen to practice writing letters.

Travel bingo is fun and keeps my daughter occupied. To mark the spots she must watch where we are going and find items like a water tower, railroad crossing sign, a river or bird on a wire. This game has lead to learning a lot of new vocabulary. We also play I-Spy and Scavenger Hunt along the way. Travel bingo comes in disposable tear away sheets and travel boards. It is great for all ages. If you can’t find the game, make up your own board ahead of time.

I love all the travel games for road trips. We like Sorry, travel bingo, shut the box, and yahtzee. These games are contained in a little box, so you don’t lose the pieces as you pass them around the car, and everyone likes to play them.

Most of the time when we take long trips in the car My daughter wants to take her big items but i have found it is way to hard to color while riding in a vechicle.. We like to bring the laptop in the car,etch a sketch and playing cards,books.. We do not do much camping…

My son loves kitchen magnets. Those little letters and numbers with magnets. He is old enough to have them. He also carries his favorite toys. Also, having plenty of healthy snacks and drinks help too. We also have a car DVD player.

We don’t use anything fancy. Books are generally good. We like those because they are quiet. Stuffed animals work well because they can be played with or used as pillows.

So, I don’t have any fantastic tips! We’ve never been on an airplane, taken a camping trip, or a longer than 4 hour car ride with the kids! The best I can say is make sure you bring lots not messy snacks, like Gerber Puffs! We are taking our first trip in September (14 hour car ride) so winning this would be FANTASTIC for our 3 1/2 year old! Thanks for the chance!

My kids have the older Gameboy Advance (can’t afford the new DSI). We have managed to collect several games for these at garage sales. My kids love to play with these on trips.

The older kids amuse themselves with their video games. My 6 yr old had a good time recording one of our road trips with his own camera. We told him things to photograph and that kept him busy looking, Portable DVD players have been a lifesaver for our toddler.

My favorite traveling product is the Leapster 2 game system. Fun, educational and the games can be easily stored in a pocket. Also the My Busy Kit is great for traveling. Lots of little things to keep the kids interested and busy.

I found a sketcha doodle at Walmart it has a hook that goes over the headrest so the kids can easily draw, no markers so no risk of it getting all over the back of my seats
